STUKA
Scottish Terrier, crew mascot belonging to Capt. James A. Verinis, flew on B-1t’s ‘Memphis Belle’ and ‘Connecticut Yankee.’
Stuka was born in England and was living in a pet shop in Longdon when Captain Verinis found her and brought her to live with him where he was stationed at the USAAF barracks near Bassingbourn. Captain Verinis and Stuka became great friends, and togehter they helped boos the morale of the servicement everywhere they went.
Stuka beame known as the ‘mascot of the Memphis Belle.’ She wasa faithful companion of the crew of the Memphis Belle. She even had her own dog tags just like the soliders did!
Stuka lived a full life and after the war as James’s pet in the USA.
